Thomas Titans: Men Among Boys

"Adeline Foo’s first foray into young adult fiction is told through the voice of yet another charming protagonist, without the same childish naiveté and cheek of Amos Lee and with a rougher edge..."

Not something one would expect from the author of a cute book series like Amos Lee, right? To those of you who haven't get heard, Adeline released the first book of another series, Thomas Titans: Men Among Boys, earlier this year. Suitable for pre-teens and young adults, this is a gripping story of growing up as a tough young boy trying to leave a shady past behind.

This e-book is purchasable on ilovebooks for what would cost just a couple of dollars more than a yummy ice blended chocolate drink :) I assure that you I found it just as delicious, but in a different way. Haha! You also saving some paper by reading it on your computer. Do check it out if you're game for something new.

Happy reading, everybody!

Catch up TV

Hello everyone,

Been a while since the TV show was launched, hasn't it?

Unfortunately, 28th of March marks the airing date of the last episode (awww) of The Diary Of Amos Lee. Fret not if you've missed any episodes over the season, for there exists a wonderful new way of catching up on TV shows on the xinmsn website :) It's called Catch-Up TV and every single episode of Amos Lee is up for you to watch and re-watch to your heart's content. Here's the link!

As for this blog, expect posting to be sporadic as we have already seen the last of the TV series and there will be no more updates on the show's progress. However, fans of the TV show are still very welcome to email any thoughts or questions you have and we'll try our very best to respond to them on this site :)

On the other hand, the book series is definitely still alive and running, and we will post any extra nuggets of information on this site as and when necessary! For more frequent updates, do keep up with the official site for the book series as well as the official Facebook page for the book or the official Facebook page for the TV series for any major news regarding the exploits of Adeline Foo and Amos Lee.

Launch of The Diary of Amos Lee: Your D.I.Y. Toilet Diary to Fame!

Something exciting was under way
At Kinokuniya one fine Sunday.

Adeline and Stephanie took a couple of hours to meet fans and fans-to-be of the book series just last Sunday at the launch of their new book, The Diary of Amos Lee: Your D.I.Y. Toilet Diary to Fame! Here are a couple of interesting questions people asked:

Q: What is the new book about?
A: It's a DIY book, so instead of the usual stories, it is filled with fun (and sometimes cheeky) activities that readers can engage in such as palm reading and personality quizzes. There is even a quiz to determine how famous you are!

Q: Why adapt the Amos Lee series into a TV show?
A: A TV show will make Amos Lee available on every television in Singapore. This will allow Amos and his stories to reach out to all kids, so even those who don't own the books can enjoy the series in a different way.

Q: Why is the TV series half live action and half animation?
A: We wanted to keep faithful to the illustrations in the book series, but 6 months to put up a TV show isn't enough for 10 fully animated episodes. With half and half, even if some of the characters are portrayed by actors, the animated parts will let readers identify with the pictures they have seen in the books!

There were other ongoing Amos Lee activities such that everyone was kept happy (:

 Kids were busy coloring posters.

Amos Lee cookies were given out to all, courtesy of AllanBakes (:

There were book signings too, of course!

Here's a nice group shot with (left to right) the blogger, the emcee, the artist and the author!

Whew, what an exciting day that was, I'm sure everyone had fun (:
Speaking of exciting things happening, don't forget there's only about a week until the launch of the TV show! You may want to learn more about it direct from the Mediacorp site here.

Contest winners!

Hello Amos Lee fans :)

Exciting news: We have a winner!

Do you remember the contest that opened earlier this month? Take a look at our lucky winners:

The winner of the super cool Amos Lee tumbler is 8-year-old Maahika Singh with her creative and colourful entry.
I’ll be Whoopie Lee ! Just like Mary Poppins she is ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ and will be a superstar after Amos’s TV series. Whoopie pie will outrun Amos cookies, Roti Prata or even Mcdonalds! Training a human poodle is merely one of her gazillion ideas to get one over her brother, Amos.
Well done, Maahika! I hope you'll enjoy your brand new Amos Lee tumbler.

Another lovely entry I received was written by Lionel Tee. This little man's got a huge future in showbiz ;)

I would choose to be Simon Cowell because I want to be a judge on American Idol and people around the world will know me.
Well, Lionel, I hope we all get to see you on television sometimes in the future! For now, enjoy your exclusive Amos Lee notebook.
Thank you to all who enthusiastically participated in this fun contest! And to those who are still looking to win some nice merchandise, don't worry because we're always looking for opportunities to give awesome stuff out to our fellow Amos Lee friends. Just make sure you stay tuned :)

A baker and a book series

As promised, here's part two to the up close and personal series, where we learn more about the people who help make the book and TV series possible.

Mm, a nice delicious brunch of coffee, pie and shortbread! Are you wondering who prepared it?
Meet Allan Teoh, the warm and capable owner of bakery/cafe AllanBakes at Bukit Timah Plaza.

A few quick facts about Allan and his bakery:
  • Allan is a self-taught baker who had been baking since young.
  • He had left a corporate job to pursue professional baking just 5 years ago.
  • AllanBakes is winner of various local food awards and is especially known for its great cheesecakes!

Adeline had first visited the old AllanBakes outlet located at South Buona Vista road back when she held a full time job at the National Community Leadership Institute. Being fond of both the yummy food and friendly service, she soon became a regular.

Oh, did I forget to mention this other important fact?
  • Allan has also recently become a published author, having released a cookbook of self-written recipes entitled AllanBakes Really Good Cakes. He had written this book in the hopes that he would be able to create workable recipes for delicious cakes, and in doing so contribute his knowledge of baking back to society. :D

AllanBakes Really Good Cakes had recently been named the Singapore winner for the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2011 and is now vying for the next round of "Gourmand Best in the World" competition under the category of 'French Cuisine' to be held in Paris in March 2012! Yup, so not only are Adeline and Allan friends, they are also fellow award-winning authors, and looking forward to working together collaboratively. For starters, Allan has been sponsoring his cakes to the set of the TV series. Remember this?

What's more, Allan presented us with a very special treat one visit - Amos Lee cookies! I had the rare privilege of tasting one of these delicious creations :)

I had a hard time figuring out how my camera could capture how crunchy and sweet this humble little cookie was, but I guess that's up to your imagination for now! ;)

Second visit to the set

Here's a second in the behind the scenes series, where I document all the cool stuff going on on the set of The Diary Of Amos Lee :)

It was the 8th of December and the cast and crew seemed pumped up to get through the last few weeks of filming! They were shooting very exciting swimming scenes at the pool that day. Who dropped in for a visit?

Oh don't worry about that little guy, he was just one of the props. Remember how in Girls, Guts and Glory, Alvin and Somaly had bonded over a common interest in spiders?
So what else did I uncover? A very busy changing room? You bet!

Whoa, check out all the towels! Of course, they had to make sure nobody would catch cold from jumping in and out of the water. Luckily, the day was hot and sunny, perfect conditions for an outdoor shoot. Take a look at how clear and blue the water looked in such dazzling sunlight.

The ever-professional crew was ready to face the sun, as you could tell from the overwhelming number of hats and sunglasses present that day.

From camera crew and assistant directors...
 To gaffers...
 To the executive producer/director...

It was hard work standing in the sun from morning to late afternoon, but nobody was looking to leave until the job was done :) Everyone (myself included!) was also lucky to enjoy a glimpse of a rare and beautiful sight in the sky that afternoon.

Now who said working in the sun was without its benefits? :D
